York Suburban 41, Greencastle-Antrim 24: The Trojans held the Blue Devils to just 8 points in the second half and defeated G-A by 17 points in a non-league game in Greencastle on Tuesday night.

It is the second win this season for York Suburban over the Blue Devils (14-6), after G-A beat the Trojans in the District 3 Class 5A

championship game last February. York Suburban is ranked No. 1 in 5A and has finished its regular season with a 20-1 record.

Greencastle opened the game with a 7-2 lead after fast-break buckets by Haley Noblit and Eva Martin and a 3-pointer from Martin. The Trojans then zoomed to a 19-11 lead that the Blue Devils trimmed to 19-16 by halftime thanks to a late runner by Noblit.

But in the second half, Suburban’s man-to-man defense did a good job of switching up top and made it difficult for G-A to get any good looks at the basket. Ainsley Swindell’s three and a free throw by Noblit were the only points of the third quarter for Greencastle, and Suburban took a 30-20 lead into the final period.

Noblit opened the fourth with a 3-pointer, but the only other point for G-A came on a Martin free throw and the Trojans gradually increased the lead.

The killer play came with Paige Garner at the line. She hit her first free throw and missed her second but Amaya Pope grabbed the rebound and scored, then made a resulting foul shot for a four-point possession that made it 39-24.

Noblit led Greencastle, which had a 6-game win streak halted, with 11 points and 4 rebounds, Martin scored 6 points and added 3 steals, Swindell had 4 points and Shaina Overcash contributed 4 boards.
