GREENCASTLE -- Chambersburg’s duo of Taylor Vrabel and Ashley Adams proved too much for Greencastle-Antrim Saturday night, combining for 33 points to lift the Trojans to a 54-39 victory in the girls’ championship game of the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament.
Chambersburg jumped out to a 16-3 lead en route to a 32-14 cushion at the break. G-A did respond with a nice push in the second half, getting as close as 11 in the fourth quarter. The youthful Blue Devils (1-1) were unable to truly threaten down the stretch, however, as Chambersburg (2-0) reasserted itself to seal the win.
Adams and Vrabel had their way in the paint, utilizing their size and strength to give the Trojans command. Adams -- who was named Tournament MVP -- was stellar early, netting 12 of her 16 points in the first half. Vrabel ended with a game-high 17 points, earning a selection to the All-Tournament Team.
Ashley True had a career-best showing with 14 points to pace G-A, including the bucket which cut the deficit to 11 in the fourth. Ashley Noblit added eight points for the Blue Devils while Lydia Crist recorded six.
Crist and Madison Sweitzer, who scored 15 points in Friday’s win over James Buchanan, were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Saturday’s loss snapped a streak of four straight Tip-Off Tournament titles for Greencastle.
