SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman Denia Campbell totaled 10 points in her Stevenson University women's basketball debut, but the Mustangs fell 68-44 to RIT in the opening round of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Friday evening.

Campbell finished 5-8 from the floor to lead the Mustangs (0-1), who got 27 of their 44 points from freshmen on the evening.  Freshman Olivia Coleman tallied seven points and six rebounds, while classmate Brandi Hall also scored seven points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.  Junior Jonyae Curry chipped in with six points.

RIT (1-0), the defending Liberty League champion, was led by Jessica Glaz and Sabrina Wolfe with 15 points apiece.

The Tigers scored the game's first five points, with the Mustangs getting on the board 2:09 in on a basket by sophomore Hannah Crist.  RIT held an 18-11 lead after one quarter and extended the lead to 24-13 at the 6:36 mark before a 7-2 run capped by a three by freshman Morgan Jacobs pulled Stevenson within six, 26-20, at the 4:23 mark.  RIT took a 31-23 lead into halftime.

RIT took control by opening the second half on a 17-2 run, limiting Stevenson to one field goal over the first nearly seven minutes of the third quarter.

The Tigers shot 41.5% from the floor and took 18 more trips to the free throw line, going 21-29 while Stevenson was just 2-11 at the stripe.  The Mustangs shot 32.8% overall and were outrebounded 41-37.

Stevenson returns to action in the second round of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Saturday when it faces Houghton in a 2:00 contest.
