ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Abington overcame a first quarter deficit on its way to a 75-47 win over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Sunday. The Wildcats fell to 0-3 NEAC, 0-6 overall, while the Lions improved to 2-1, 4-2.
Alicia Ross scored a game-high 23 points for Penn College, on 7 of 14 shooting and 6 of 11 from the line. Jane Herman added 12 points for the Wildcats.
Four players reached double figures in scoring for Abington, led by Symantha Marrero's 20 points.
The first quarter featured four deadlocks and several led changes, highlighted by a 7-0 run from Penn College early in the contest. Knotted at 7-7, Herman scored five points and Ross two, to put the Wildcats ahead 14-7 with 2:49 left in the quarter. The Lions answered with eight straight before Herman's trey with three seconds left gave Penn College an 18-17 lead.
Abington outscored the Wildcats 13-2 in the second, 26-12 in the third, and 19-15 in the fourth.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 3 p.m., hosting Valley Forge.
