Several PennLive Big 15 girls’ basketball standouts recently committed to Division III colleges, where they’ll continue their hoops and academic careers at the next level.
Here’s a roundup:
Leah Springer, Camp Hill, chooses Messiah — What a senior campaign, and what a prep career for Springer, who helped the Lions win Mid-Penn Capital and District 3 Class 2A championships this past winter — and she was named PennLive’s MVP of the district tourney, and Springer was a Class 2A all-state selection after averaging 21.2 points. She finished her Lions’ career with 1,700 points and 1,100 rebounds. Messiah is an annual contender in the MAC Commonwealth; coach Mike Miller’s current roster includes District 3 grads Jen Fairbanks (Elizabethtown), Becca Isaac (Biglerville), Claudia Mingora (York Suburban), Hannah Brown (Mechanicsburg), Alecia Rohrer (Hempfield) and Gillian Glackin (Solanco).
Caroline Scarff, Lancaster Catholic, chooses Lebanon Valley College — Our favorite Scarff stat: In four seasons, the Crusaders won 106 games, including a 29-2 mark this past season, when she helped Lancaster Catholic win L-L Section 4, win the league championship, and win the District 3 Class 3 A crown, chipping in with 10.6 points, plus handfuls and handfuls of clutch rebounds, blocked shots and steals. Scarff finished her prep career with 1,277 points, and she’ll join LVC coach Amy Sokaitis’ roster, which includes District 3 grads Alex Lehman (Dallastown), Anne Lehr (York Catholic), Jennifer Eck (Exeter) and Lexie Lantz (Lampeter-Strasburg). Scarff and Springer will square off in MAC Commonwealth play.
Allison Warren, Lebanon Catholic, chooses Bryn Athyn — Under coach Kayla Felty, the Lions compete in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, and Bryn Athyn is situated in Montgomery County in the Philadelphia suburbs. Warren helped the Beavers win the District 3 Class A championship and advance to the PIAA state quarterfinals, averaging 13.1 points with 58 3-pointers. She finished her prep career — which included her first three seasons playing for Pottsville Nativity BVM — with 1,243 points.
Emily White, Cocalico, chooses Messiah — Another good local get for the Falcons, who got commitments from Springer and White, who finished her Cocalico career with 1,244 points, after popping in 15.5 points with 20 3’s in her senior campaign this past winter for the Eagles.
Hannah Crist, Greencastle-Antrim, chooses Stevenson University — Blue Devils' point guard and lethal shooter will take her talents to the Mustangs in Owings Mills, Maryland; Stevenson plays in the MAC Commonwealth, so Crist will see plenty of familiar midstate foes in her college career as well. What a prep career for Crist, who helped G-A win the last three Mid-Penn Colonial championships in a row, plus the District 3 Class 3A crown in her junior campaign — and to PIAA victories the last two seasons. She finished her high school career with 1,244 points and 149 3's, after averaging 16.7 points with 68 treys this past season for the Devils.
