Just one change in this week’s PennLive Class 3A girls’ basketball state rankings, after Ambridge was tripped up in a WPIAL quarterfinal game last week.
That opened the door for Gwynedd Mercy out of District 1; the Monarchs graced our top 10 earlier this season, and they’re back after winning the Catholic Academies League title and earning a spot in the D1 semifinals.
Southern Lehigh, which joined the top 10 last week, and now 24-1 overall and in the District 11 semifinals, moved up a spot when Gwynedd Mercy joined the party.
Everyone else held steady, including Archbishop Wood, which has not budged from the 1-line since our preseason rankings. The Vikings, who are riding a 14-game winning streak, are set to square off against Class 2A No. 1 Neumann-Goretti — and the Saints’ nifty 53-game winning streak, dating back to the state finals in 2014 — in the Philly Catholic League finale on Monday.
Our top 10 teams in Class 3A have a combined record of 218-22. That’s pretty good.
You’ll also notice a rather large honorable mention list this week; we wanted to recognize the teams that are still alive for district titles and possible PIAA playoff spots, while recognizing a few teams that have already been eliminated this season.
