Another busy week of games are on tap for girls’ basketball teams in the area, and three midstate players are poised to join the 1,000-point club in the coming days.
Harrisburg senior Tysha Brown, Greencastle-Antrim senior Hannah Crist and Harrisburg Academy senior Laura Mowery are on the doorstep and should hit the milestone very soon — with a couple of other players in the neighborhood.
There are 12 midstate girls’ hoops players with 700 or more career points. Here is the list, and when the players that are close might eclipse the 1,000-point mark …
Tysha Brown, senior, Harrisburg — 991 points. Brown and the Cougars are at Mifflin County on Tuesday for a Mid-Penn Commonwealth tussle. Unless something goes terribly wrong, the Providence recruit, who is averaging 22.4 points per game this season, will join the club then in Lewisburg.
Hannah Crist, senior, Greencastle-Antrim — 983 points. Just 17 points to go for the Blue Devils’ point guard, but she’ll have to wait a little longer than Brown to join the club because G-A doesn’t hit the court again until Friday at home against
Shippensburg for a Mid-Penn Colonial clash. If she comes up short there, Crist and the Devils get Delone Catholic at home on Jan. 18 for an intriguing nonleague scrap. Odds are she’ll get it one of those two nights.
Laura Mowery, senior, Harrisburg Academy — 952 points. That’s 48 points to go for Mowery, and the Spartans have three games this week: Tuesday vs. Linden Hall, Thursday vs. Christian School of York, and Friday vs. Belleville Mennonite. Here’s thinking she’ll cash in by the end of this week.
Rileigh Devine, senior, Red Land — 910 points. Devine joined the 900-club when she bucketed 12 points on Saturday against Camp Hill, leaving her 90 points shy of the milestone. At her current pace of 12.5 points per game, it should take Devine around seven or games or so to hit the milestone. So go ahead and circle Jan. 29 at home vs. Bishop McDevitt to be safe.
Bella Ricci, senior, Red Land — 864 points. The Patriots have nine games to go, and at 5-8 overall, they are not guaranteed a conference or District 3 playoff spot. So Ricci would have to average 15.1 points per game to close out the regular season to hit 1,000.
Alyssa Austin, junior, Cedar Crest — 830 points.
Ahnera Parker, junior, McCaskey — 820 points.
Tori Lesko, senior, Central Dauphin — 783 points.
Zoe Zerman, junior, Northern Lebanon — 778 points.
Caroline Stauffer, junior, Ephrata — 768 points.
Claire Mackin, senior, Harrisburg Academy — 715 points.
Katie Jekot, junior, Cumberland Valley — 709 points.
Meanwhile, there are 10 current midstate players who have eclipsed 1,000 points, and without looking too far ahead, there are two players who have a pretty legit shot at scoring 2,000 points in their career:
Cumberland Valley senior Kelly Jekot needs 262 points and State College senior Kyla Irwin needs 368 points, so with extended postseason runs, those young ladies could join an elite group later this winter. We’ll keep you posted.
