Four midstate girls’ basketball players are closing in fast on 1,000 career points.
Here’s an update, including the players who are approaching the milestone, how many points they need, and when they might join the club …
Tysha Brown, senior, Harrisburg — 973 points. Just 27 points to go for the Cougars’ point guard and Providence recruit. Harrisburg is at Central Dauphin on Friday before traveling to Mifflin County on Tuesday. Brown has scored 27 or more points four times out this season, so there’s certainly a shot she’ll get it vs. CD. But the safe money might be next week against the Huskies.
Allison Warren, senior, Lebanon Catholic — 967 points. Here’s a quick caveat about Warren’s point total: That number does not include the Beavers’ Dec. 5 game vs. Steel-High. Yes, that’s the game where a Rollers’ fan was arrested after striking Lebanon Catholic AD Mike Miller during the game, which was stopped late in the third quarter and never finished. Warren had 13 points when the game was stopped, which would give her 980. But since the game isn’t official, we’re keeping her at 967 for now. At last check, we were told Steel-High officials were to meet with District 3 officials in a January meeting to decide the fate of the game. Lebanon Catholic was leading Steel-High 45-40 with 2:22 to go in the third. Lebanon Catholic is at Columbia on Friday, at Donegal on Monday and at home vs. Manheim Central on Wednesday. Unless something happens with the Steel-High numbers, Warren should certainly join the club in the next week.
Hannah Crist, senior, Greencastle-Antrim — 950 points. An even 50 points to go for the Blue Devils’ point guard. Crist is looking to join teammate Jenay Faulkner in the 1,000-point club; Faulkner, a junior, just hit the mark on Dec. 29 against Dover. G-A is at Northern York on Friday, hosts East Pennsboro on Saturday and then travels to Shippensburg next Wednesday. Circle that game next week against the Greyhounds.
Laura Mowery, senior, Harrisburg Academy — 903 points. Mowery joined the 900-club on Monday when she bucketed 19 points against New Covenant Christian, leaving her 97 points shy of a grand. With that many to go, it might take her several games to reach the milestone, so keep an eye on Jan. 14 at home vs. Christian School of York and Jan. 15 at home against Belleville Mennonite as possible dates for Mowery to join the club.
Red Land senior Rileigh Devine needs 20 points on Friday vs. Susquehanna Twp. to join the 900-club for the Patriots.
