First Team
TORI YODER, Shalom Christian, sr., G: Yoder's senior season was filled with accomplishments as she led the Flames to their second consecutive Mason-Dixon Christian Conference title. She averaged 20.7 points per game – good for third in the area – and also reached the 1,000-point mark and broke the Shalom school record for points in a career, finishing with 1,371 points ... "Tori is definitely a special player," Shalom coach Brad Eby said. "It's been great to watch the progress she has made throughout the years, and she really put it together this year. She led us in all facets of the game, and we could always rely on her, but she also knew when to give it up to her teammates. She's the ultimate team player."
BRONWYNE MELLOTT, McConnellsburg Spartans, so., F: Mellott led the area in scoring for the second consecutive season ... She averaged 22.2 points per game and eclipsed 1,000-point mark in just her sophomore season ... She also averaged just under eight rebounds per game and shot an impressive 81 percent from the foul line ... "Bronwyne got better in every aspect of her game this season," Spartans coach Brent Seville said. "She is a very dominant player with room to improve and become more versatile."
HANNAH CRIST, Greencastle-Antrim, jr., G: Crist was the primary ball-handler and second leading scorer for a Blue Devils team that won the District 3 Class AAA Tournament ... She averaged 11.7 points per game and also averaged four assists per game, tops on the team ... She was second on the team in steals with 2.2 per game, and shot 65 percent from the foul line – 75 percent in the playoffs ... Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said, "Hannah improved her ball-handling and improved her consistency with her outside shot (35 percent on 3-pointers). She is also very dangerous when driving to the basket. She can dish it out, pull up for a jumper or drive the lane. Defensively, she is probably our best on-ball defender."
TEAL TASKER, Mercersburg Academy, sr., G: Tasker's leadership and versatility were big factors in the Blue Storm's turnaround season ... She led Mercersburg in points per game (18.7), assists (3.5) and tied for the lead in steals (2.3) ... She also reached the 1,000-point plateau and finished her career with 1,071 points ... "Teal had a wonderful season to finish her career," Mercersburg coach Katie LaRue said. "She has matured and grown as a player and a leader. She stepped up in tight moments when we really needed her to, and It's been such a pleasure to coach her for four years. I can't wait to see what she will do in college."
OLIVIA MOTTERN, Southern Fulton, so., F: Mottern stepped up as Southern Fulton's leading scorer and propelled the Indians to a berth in the PIAA Class A Tournament ... She averaged 17.4 points per game, along with 4.8 rebounds per game ... "Olivia was the hardest-working kid on our team," Southern Fulton coach Terry Bard said. "Any time our gym was open after practice, she would stay for 30-45 minutes just to get some shots. She's really dedicated, and it's a year-round thing for her. With a work ethic like that, she's just going to get better and better."
MOLLY TAYLOR, Mercersburg Academy, jr., G: Taylor was an offensive force and explosive shooter for the Storm. She finished the season second on the team with 17.8 points per game and shot 38 percent from the 3-point line ... She averaged 5.7 rebounds per game, and had a four-game stretch in which she totaled 112 points, an average of 28 per game. "Molly had an especially good second half of the season," Mercersburg coach Katie LaRue said. "She found her rhythm and realized she can be deadly from the 3-point line when she wants to be. I only see her going up from here, and I'm excited for next season."
MELISSA ZEGER, Fannett-Metal, sr., C: Zeger was a force in the paint for the Tigers this season ... She finished second in the area with an average of 22 points per game, and she also averaged just over 17 rebounds per game ... She also became a member of both the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound club and broke the team record for points in a game with a 52-point showing against Cumberland Valley Christian ... "She was a huge cog for us in what we were able to do on offense and defense," Tigers coach Todd Best said. "She created a lot of things for us on offense, and she was also great at limiting the opponent to one shot with her work on the glass. She has a lot of natural talent and abilities."
KATIE GELSINGER, Greencastle-Antrim, sr., F: Gelsinger was the anchor for the District 3-AAA champion Blue Devils ... She averaged 9 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 8.7 per game, including over 12 per game throughout the playoffs ... "Katie did all of the hard work for us, and she was a much better defender than she got credit for," Devil coach Mike Rhine said. "She was always there and was a great captain. Basketball is a long season, and there are a lot of ups and downs, so it was nice to have someone like her there to keep the team focused."
JENN GROVE, Chambersburg, sr., F: Grove was asked to step out of the box for the Trojans ... She finished second on the team with 9 points per game and 24 total assists, and she also led the team with 163 rebounds – an average of 7.4 per game ... On top of that, she was also asked to handle the ball and help break the press ... "We definitely asked Jenn to step out of her comfort zone, but she did it without any hesitation and held her own," Chambersburg coach Jenny Schmutzler said. "She was a little undersized in the post, but she had good fundamentals and good post moves that enabled her to beat bigger players. She was also a great leader, very coachable and she always left everything out on the floor."
