Just one change in this week’s PennLive girls’ basketball Class AAA state rankings:
We’ve moved some new teams in and out of the top 10 in a couple of classifications the last couple of weeks, and we’re doing it again here in Class AAA.
When last week’s No. 9, Ambridge, dropped a pair of games, we though we’d go ahead and give another team a shot in the top 10, and we stuck with the WPIAL, putting 1-loss Indiana on the 10-line this week.
By the way, Ambridge’s losses were to Class AAA No. 1 Blackhawk and Class AAA honorable mention Beaver Area; hardly “bad” losses there, we know. So keep Ambridge in mind with the WPIAL playoffs coming, won’t you.
We’ve said this before and we’ll go ahead and say it again now: The beauty of this is that everything will get played out on the court in the next month, between league playoffs, district playoffs and the state tournament.
So we went ahead and made the switch, and Indiana, which is riding a 16-game winning streak, is in. The Little Indians’ lone loss is to Class AA No. 4 Burrell, way back on Dec. 12.
Everything else remained status quo, with Villa Maria — off a good win Saturday against Bishop Canevin — bumped up a spot with Indiana in. PIAA champ Blackhawk, which should snare the top seed with the WPIAL brackets are released Tuesday night, remains No. 1, with Archbishop Wood, off a good win Sunday against Class AAAA No. 6 Cardinal O’Hara, is locked into the No. 2 spot.
