Just a couple of small tweaks in this week’s PennLive Class AAA girls’ basketball state rankings, after one ranked team suffered a loss last week.
Villa Maria, No. 5 at the start of last week, dropped a gut-wrenching 35-33 OT decision to District 10 rival Mercyhurst Prep on Thursday. We kept the Victors in the top 10 and Prep, thanks to its win, got a bump in the rankings.
Our top four has been pretty steady throughout most of the season, and that group remained unchanged yet again, with PIAA champ Blackhawk, PIAA runner-up Archbishop Wood, Bethlehem Catholic and Scranton Prep occupying the top four slots.
Undefeated Hickory, Allentown Central Catholic, unbeaten West York and Ambridge also got bumps after Villa’s loss.
Again, hardly a “bad” loss for the Victors. But enough for us to do some rearranging in the top 10 with the postseason approaching.
Here is our PennLive Class AAA top 10, plus honorable mention selections, through games of Jan. 31, with home district in parenthesis and overall record …
