There's less than a week until District 3 playoffs. Here's a look at top performers who have made a name for themselves through January.
Just five of last year's Big 15 first teamers were underclassmen, which leaves plenty of room for younger players (and senior leaders) in this season's Big 15 watch:
Rylee Derr, sophomore, Warwick: Warwick doesn't have much of a chance at making noise in the playoff with the bottom spot in the Lancaster-Lebanon Section 1 standings. But they did grab some attention with a 42-35 upset of Hempfield, with Derr leading the way with a game-high 15 points. She's at 11th on the midstate leaderboard, averaging 17.6 points through 19 showings.
Alyssa Austin, sophomore, Cedar Crest: Had a game-high 26 points, 5 blocked shots and 21 rebounds in an overtime defeat of Palmyra, the Mid-Penn Keystone frontrunner. Sits at 15 on the leaderboard with 15.9 points per game through 19 games.
Ahnera Parker, sophomore, McCaskey: Pulled in a season-high 27 points on Tuesday against Penn Manor to help keep the Red Tornadoes tied for first in Section 1 with Cedar Crest.
Brittany Ulrich, senior, Lebanon: The 5-3 point guard is 15 points away from the 1000-point career mark after a 16-point showing against Elizabethtown. She's scored in the single digits in just six of 20 games.
Leah Springer, senior, Camp Hill: Had 15 points in a win against Trinity to help push the Lions ahead in the Mid-Penn Capital title race, and is fifth on the leaderboard with 18.6 points per game.
Jenay Faulkner, sophomore, Greencastle-Antrim: Averaging 18 points through 18 games, and hasn't scored less than 20 points in a game since Jan. 13. Led the Blue Devils to a second outright Mid-Penn Colonial title this year and is second on the 3-pointer leaderboard with 51.
Rileigh Devine, junior, Red Land: Leads the area in 3-pointers with 55 and the Patriots in points with 15.7 per game. has yet to play a game without making a 3-pointer.
Kristen Smoluk, senior, Palmyra: Led the Cougars to a Mid-Penn Keystone title with 11.9 points per game, including a season-high 18 against Red Land on Jan. 16.
