After a dominating performance as a freshman last season, Greencastle-Antrim's secret weapon is no longer secret.

But that doesn't make Jenay Faulkner any less of a weapon.

"If anything, I think she's grown up," Blue Devil coach Mike Rhine said. "She's realizes it's OK to take over; basketball is not an equal opportunity sport. She's kind of realizing that everyone has a job, and right now, with the way our team is, her job is put points on the board."

Faulkner did just that this weekend at the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament. She was named the girls Most Valuable Player after putting up 35 points over the course of two games and led the Blue Devils to their second straight championship. Faulkner is the Public Opinion Female Athlete of the Week.

"I don't feel like I have to take on too much pressure," Faulkner said. "We have enough people on our team that anyone can do anything, but it was really important for us to get off to a good start. We have something to prove this year; we're trying to show everyone that last season wasn't just a fluke."

Faulkner's ability to take over a game was especially on display in the championship.

Chambersburg led after the first quarter, but then Faulkner poured on the points, scoring 12 of her 19 points on Saturday in the second period.

"It was very frustrating early because we're used to everything going in," Faulkner said. "The shots weren't falling, but we just had to keep shooting."

That's one of Faulkner's biggest strengths – her consistent shooting. On Saturday, she had 19 field goal attempts – nearly half of Greencastle's entire team

.

She also has one of the top basketball IQs despite her young age.

"It's like having a coach on the floor," Rhine said. "She is gonna get double-teamed, and people will try to stop her from shooting. But that will only allow her imagination run wild about how we're going to get another shot. If even they put three players on her, that's not going to change how effective she is on the court."

Because even if Faulkner isn't scoring, she's leading the Blue Devils in blocked shots or rebounds, creating an even more versatile threat as her career continues.
