Greencastle Falls out of Penn Live Top 10 after 2 losses to end season
2/26/2014

Just a couple of minor tweaks in this week’s PennLive Class AAA girls’ basketball state rankings.

One team — Mid-Penn Colonial champ Greencastle-Antrim — dropped out of the top 10, and WPIAL-AAA semifinalist and reigning state champ South Park has made a return trip to the top 10.

Yes, No. 1 Archbishop Wood suffered a loss in the last week, but it was to undefeated Class AA No. 1 Neumann-Goretti in the Philadelphia Catholic League championship.

So yes, once again, Wood occupies the top spot, as the Vikings prep for Mastery Charter in the District 12-AAA title game on Saturday.

FYI: Wood’s three losses — Twice to Goretti and to Highland Ranch, Colo., by 2 points in a tournament in Phoenix back on Dec. 21. So yeah, the Vikings are legit.

Scranton Prep, a District 2-AAA semifinalist, and Blackhawk, a WPIAL-AAA semifinalist, remained locked in at 2-3.

Other moves:

Bethlehem Catholic — which was No. 1 for a good chunk of the season — Villa Maria (Erie) and unbeaten Hickory all moved up a few spots after Bonner-Prendergast fell in the Philly Catholic League semifinals.

Prendie fell to Goretti, so we kept the Pandas — who will play for third place in District 12 vs. Freire Charter on Saturday — inside the top 10.

Lancaster Catholic, a District 3-AAA semifinalist, and Northwestern Lehigh, a District 11-AAA semifinalist, also remained inside the top 10.

Here is the Class AAA top 10 and honorable mention picks, with records through Tuesday’s games and home district in parenthesis
